SIB is a federation of bioinformatics research and service groups, whose Group Leaders are senior academic staff at our partner institutions.

The Institute is also piloting several Internal Groups, which are fully staffed by SIB.

Discusses all matters relating to SIB groups as a whole, and proposes the nomination of new Group Leaders

SIB Management

  • The day-to-day task of SIB's Executive Management is to put in practice the Institute's strategic and scientific goals, established by the Board of Directors, whether by ensuring an optimal internal organization or by fostering long-term institutional partnerships in Switzerland and abroad.

  • The Finance and Grant Services team manages the funds allocated to SIB, i.e. 100+ Swiss, European and American funds and nearly CHF Mo 30 per year. This includes reporting to fund originators, advising Principal Investigators of grants and human resources financial management. This email address is being protected from spambots.   • The mission of the Legal and Technology Transfer Office is to protect and transfer SIB knowledge and know-how to research institutes and the industry so that the public can benefit from SIB’s innovations.   • In line with supporting SIB mission and goals, the People and Culture department brings the best of people management and organizational culture to the benefit of all employees, continuing the development of an inspiring work environment and engaged workforce.   • The Communications team ensures the visibility of the Institute and its affiliated research and service groups by engaging internal and external audiences through diverse channels.   • François Germanier
    Executive Assistant

    François is in charge of providing administrative support to the Directors’ office by managing schedules and mailboxes. He also organizes internal and external meetings and events, and ensures links with partners and other bodies. François holds a MSc in Media and Communication and joined SIB in 2018 after having gained experience in PR and communication agencies.

  • Jocelyne Bocquet
    Head of Finance and Grant Services


    Jocelyne is in charge of the Finance department. She ensures the financial coordination and management of all funds allocated to SIB and in which SIB is involved. She obtained a degree in Financial Management in 1982 and joined SIB in 2009, after working in different areas of financial trusts, institutions, foundations and associations.

  • Maïa Berman
    Communications Manager

    Maïa manages communication projects such as press releases, annual reports or newsletters, from inception to delivery. She writes and edits content for SIB’s various communication channels (e.g. website, social media, presentations). She joined SIB in 2016 after completing a PhD in Biology (Australia and France) in 2012 and working for three years in legal marketing and business development at a Swiss law firm.

  • Chiara Gabella
    Scientific Coordinator & UX Architect


    Chiara is managing a number of scientific and administrative projects related to SIB's bioinformatics resources. She is also responsible for the strategy and processes to develop the user experience (UX) design of these resources. Chiara joined SIB in 2016, after a postdoc in Biophysics. She holds a MSc in Mathematical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Turin and a PhD in Physics from the EPFL in Lausanne.

  • Sandra Reinders
    People & Culture Manager

    Sandra elaborates and manages diverse People and Culture projects. In parallel, she assists and advises Group Leaders and Employees in employee life cycle matters and management questions. She joined SIB in 2015 with 20 years of experience in HR, after having worked in various countries and industries, including the academic sector. She holds a MSc degree in Management of Technology and Innovation.

  • Christine Durinx
    Joint Executive Director

    Christine joined SIB in 2014 as Associate Director. She was appointed Joint Executive Director in June 2018. Christine holds a degree in Pharmacy and a PhD in Pharmaceutical sciences. Before joining SIB, she worked in the pharmaceutical industry for over 10 years. Christine is co-lead of the ELIXIR Data platform.

  • Manuela Pruess
    Grant Officer

    Manuela is the contact person for all questions related to grant rules, both internal and external, especially concerning EU, SNSF and NIH funding. She liaises between SIB Group Leaders, the Finance team and the Legal and Technology Transfer Office. She holds a PhD in Human Genetics and joined the SIB in 2010 after having worked for German and UK research institutions.

  • Marc Filliettaz
    Legal and Technology Transfer Officer


    Marc is responsible for the Legal and Technology Transfer Office and for all legal matters at SIB, including intellectual property, personal data protection and research involving human beings. He joined SIB in 2014 after obtaining a Master’s degree in Law at the University of Geneva. During his studies, he co-founded a Geneva-based company specializing in a new process technology for wine conditioning.

  • Sylvie Flegel
    Communications Assistant

    Sylvie maintains SIB’s website and social media accounts, designs communication materials and assists in the creation and emailing of the Communications department’s publications. Sylvie joined SIB in 2009. She holds a degree in foreign languages (English, Italian and German) as well as a degree in tourism. She also studied photography and graphic design.

  • Ron Appel
    Joint Executive Director

    Ron co-founded SIB in 1998, where he led the Proteome Informatics Group. A professor of bioinformatics at the University of Geneva, he is also scientific co-founder of two biotechnology companies. Ron graduated in Computer Science from the University of Geneva, where he also earned his PhD in Computer Sciences applied to proteomics, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard School of Public Health.

    Véronique ensures that all operational People and Culture matters are managed consistently and fairly. Véronique joined SIB in June 2000 after having studied Theology at the University of Geneva.

  • Warren Paulus
    Information System Security Officer

     
    Warren is responsible for the Information Security including technical and non-technical projects at SIB and across several of its IT infrastructures. He holds a Master of Science in Industrial Engineer. Before joining SIB, he worked as Consultant for multinational companies during 4 years. After work, he always tries to improve his skills as an autodidact.

    Accounting Assistant

    Leonardo’s main activities consist in assisting the Head of Finance, and in dealing with current accounting affairs with his colleague Sabine. He joined SIB in 2014 and holds a CFC Diploma in Economics and General Culture as well as a Commercial Professional Matura obtained in 2015.

    People & Culture Assistant

    Vanessa manages the administrative aspects of the employees’ lifecycle from hiring to departure. She also participates in various People and Culture projects and assists the People and Culture team in its tasks. Vanessa joined SIB in 2013 as a trainee and became HR assistant in September 2014. She holds a degree in HR Management since March 2016.

    Head of Communications

    Marie is responsible for SIB’s communications’ strategy and implementation. She acts as main contact for communication projects related to national and international initiatives in which SIB is involved. She also ensures coordination with outreach activities. Marie joined SIB in 2017 with 14 years’ experience in international communications in Asia and Switzerland. She completed in 2001 a MSc in Management & Marketing.

    Head People & Culture

    Pierre is leading the People & Culture department, developing and implementing a strategy that brings people management and SIB's culture to the benefit of all employees. He and his team also ensure a smooth handling of admin and support activities. Pierre joined SIB in May 2018 from FRHI Hotels & Resorts, Zurich where he was VP Human Resources. Pierre holds a MSc in Organizational Change from HEC Paris.

  • Franziska Gruhl
    Junior Project Manager

     
    Franziska joined the team in 2017 to work on the SIB 20th anniversary projects and to help with the organization of the annual SIB Days. She completed a PhD in 2017 (bioinformatics, evolution, genetics) in one of the SIB research groups in Lausanne.

    Financial Assistant

    Sabine’s main activities consist in assisting the Head of Finance, and in dealing with current accounting affairs with her colleague Leonardo. She joined SIB in 2009, after having been active in several associations for 10 years. Sabine obtained a commercial degree in 1984.

  • Lydie Nso Nso
    Administrative Assistant

    Lydie’s main activity is to assist the Legal and Technology Transfer Office by ensuring the follow-up of schedules for contracts and signature process, as well as managing the electronic database. She also helps with the drafting and negotiation of agreements. Lydie joined SIB in 2014 and holds an undergraduate diploma in business.
