SIB is a federation of bioinformatics research and service groups, whose Group Leaders are senior academic staff at our partner institutions.

The Institute is also piloting several Internal Groups, which are composed of SIB Employees.

Scientific Advisory Board

SIB Management

  • The day-to-day task of SIB's Executive Management is to put in practice the Institute's strategic and scientific goals, established by the Board of Directors, whether by ensuring an optimal internal organization or by fostering long-term institutional partnerships in Switzerland and abroad.

  • The Finance and Grant Services team manages the funds allocated to SIB, i.e. 100+ Swiss, European and American funds and nearly CHF Mo 30 per year.   • The mission of the Legal and Technology Transfer Office is to protect and transfer SIB knowledge and know-how to research institutes and the industry so that the public can benefit from SIB’s innovations.   • In line with supporting SIB mission and goals, the People and Culture department brings the best of people management and organizational culture to the benefit of all employees, continuing the development of an inspiring work environment and engaged workforce.   • The Communications team ensures the visibility of the Institute and its affiliated research and service groups by engaging internal and external audiences through diverse channels.   • Crystel Mangold
    Senior Administrative Assistant

    Crystel’s main activities consist in supporting the Joint Executive Directors and provide assistance to SIB Management team. She holds a Swiss Federal diploma in administration and joined SIB in 2020 after having been active in the information technology and retail industries.

  • Jean-Sébastien Fischer

    Jean-Sébastien assists and advises the Head of Finance & Grant services on management and strategic issues. He also assists the Head of the service in the smooth running of the department and ensures her back-up; prepares financial reports, organizes and manages audits. He holds a Swiss federal diploma in finance and accounting and joined SIB in 2019 after being an accounting trainer and a fiduciary agent.

  • Clément Parisato
    Legal Officer

    Clement is taking care of legal affairs and assists the Head of LTTO. He is in charge of providing legal advice and support to all SIB’s groups on a wide range of law issues, negotiating and drafting agreements and internal policies. He joined SIB in 2019 after graduating a second master’s degree in Law from the Faculty of Law of Neuchâtel. He also has a keen interest in cutting-edge technologies and IP rights.

  • Ron Appel
    Joint Executive Director

    Ron co-founded SIB in 1998, where he led the Proteome Informatics Group. A professor of bioinformatics at the University of Geneva, he is also scientific co-founder of two biotechnology companies. Ron graduated in Computer Science from the University of Geneva, where he also earned his PhD in Computer Sciences applied to proteomics, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard School of Public Health.

  • Marc Filliettaz
    Director of Operations

    Marc is responsible for the Legal and Technology Transfer Office and for all legal matters at SIB, including intellectual property, personal data protection and research involving human beings. He joined SIB in 2014 after obtaining a Master’s degree in Law at the University of Geneva. During his studies, he co-founded a Geneva-based company specializing in a new process technology for wine conditioning.

  • Jocelyne Bocquet
    Head of Finance and Grant Services

    Jocelyne is in charge of the Finance department. She ensures the financial coordination and management of all funds allocated to SIB and in which SIB is involved. She obtained a degree in Financial Management in 1982 and joined SIB in 2009, after working in different areas of financial trusts, institutions, foundations and associations.

  • Marie Dangles
    Director of Communications, People & Culture

    Marie is responsible for the communication and scientific events’ strategy of the SIB and ensures the coherence and implementation of all related activities. She also supervises the People & Culture department and participates to the Institute’s leadership. Marie joined SIB in 2017 with 14 years of experience and a MSc in Management & Marketing. Contact

  • Chiara Gabella
    Scientific Coordinator & UX Designer

    Chiara is managing a number of scientific and administrative projects related to SIB Resources. She is also responsible for the strategy and processes to improve the user experience (UX) of these resources. Chiara joined SIB in 2016, after a postdoc in Biophysics. She holds a MSc in Mathematical Engineering and a PhD in Physics. In 2019, Chiara obtained (cum laude) her UX Designer Diploma from the SAWI Design & Code school. Contact

  • Christine Durinx
    Joint Executive Director

    Christine focuses on the strategic and operational management of SIB. She joined SIB in 2014 as Associate Director and was appointed Joint Executive Director in June 2018. Christine holds a degree in Pharmacy and a PhD (protein structure and enzyme kinetics). Before joining SIB, she worked in the pharmaceutical industry for over 10 years.

  • Franziska Gruhl
    Scientific Events Manager

    Franziska joined the team in 2017 to work on the SIB 20th anniversary projects and to help with the organization of the annual SIB Days. She completed a PhD in 2017 (bioinformatics, evolution, genetics) in one of the SIB research groups in Lausanne.

  • Manuela Pruess
    Grant Officer

    Manuela is the contact person for all questions related to grant rules, both internal and external, especially concerning EU, SNSF and NIH funding. She liaises between SIB Group Leaders, the Finance team and the Legal and Technology Transfer Office. She holds a PhD in Human Genetics and joined the SIB in 2010 after having worked for German and UK research institutions.

  • Sandra Reinders
    People & Culture Manager

    Sandra elaborates and manages diverse People and Culture projects. In parallel, she assists and advises Group Leaders and Employees in employee life cycle matters and management questions. She joined SIB in 2015 with 20 years of experience in HR, after having worked in various countries and industries, including the academic sector. She holds a MSc degree in Management of Technology and Innovation.

  • Sabine Perlini
    Financial Assistant

    Sabine’s main activities consist in assisting the Head of Finance, and in dealing with current accounting affairs with her colleague Jean-Sébastien. She joined SIB in 2009, after having been active in several associations for 10 years. Sabine obtained a commercial degree in 1984.

  • Vanessa Monteiro Caria
    Senior People & Culture Assistant

    Vanessa manages the administrative aspects of the employees’ life cycle from hiring to departure. She also participates in various People and Culture projects. Vanessa joined SIB in 2013 as a trainee and became HR assistant in September 2014. She holds a Swiss federal diploma in higher education, in HR, since November 2019.

  • Maïa Berman
    Communications Manager

    Maïa manages communication projects such as press releases, videos, annual reports or newsletters, from inception to delivery. She writes and edits content for SIB’s various communication channels (e.g. website, social media). She joined SIB in 2016 after completing a PhD in Biology (Australia and France) in 2012 and working in marketing and business development at a Swiss law firm. Contact
