  • The Finance and Grant Services team manages the funds allocated to SIB, i.e. 100+ Swiss, European and American funds and nearly CHF Mo 30 per year.   • The mission of the Legal and Technology Transfer Office is to protect and transfer SIB knowledge and know-how to research institutes and the industry so that the public can benefit from SIB’s innovations.   • The Human Resources team supports SIB mission and goals, by managing all steps of the employees’ lifecycle, and by elaborating, developing and mastering new processes and projects to offer SIB’s employees an inspiring and fair work environment.   • The Communications team ensures the visibility of the Institute and its affiliated research and service groups by engaging internal and external audiences through diverse channels.   • Ron Appel
    Executive Director

    Ron co-founded SIB in 1998, where he led the Proteome Informatics Group. A professor of bioinformatics at the University of Geneva, he is also scientific co-founder of two biotechnology companies. Ron graduated in Computer Science from the University of Geneva, where he also earned his PhD in Computer Sciences applied to proteomics, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard School of Public Health.

  • Sabine Perlini
    Financial Assistant

    Sabine’s main activities consist in assisting the Head of Finance, and in dealing with current accounting affairs with her colleague Leonardo. She joined SIB in 2009, after having been active in several associations for 10 years. Sabine obtained a commercial degree in 1984.

  • Vanessa Monteiro Caria
    Human Resources Assistant

    Vanessa manages the administrative aspects of the employees’ lifecycle from hiring to departure. She also participates in various Human Resources projects and assists the HR team in its tasks. Vanessa joined SIB in 2013 as a trainee and became HR assistant in September 2014. She holds a degree in HR Management since March 2016.

  • Marie Dangles
    Head of Communications

    Marie is responsible for SIB’s communications’ strategy and implementation. She acts as main contact for communication projects related to national and international initiatives in which SIB is involved. She also ensures coordination with outreach activities. Marie joined SIB in 2017 with 14 years’ experience in international communications in Asia and Switzerland. She completed in 2001 a MSc in Management & Marketing.

  • Franziska Gruhl
    Junior Communications Project Manager

    Franziska joined the team in 2017 to work on the SIB 20th anniversary projects and to help with the organization of the annual SIB Days. She completed a PhD in 2017 (bioinformatics, evolution, genetics) in one of the SIB research groups in Lausanne.

  • Christine Durinx
    Associate Director

    Christine is supporting the SIB Executive Director in his function. She also takes responsibility for the SIB Communication and Training activities, and the Director’s Office. She is co-lead of the ELIXIR Data platform. Christine joined SIB in 2014. She holds a degree in Pharmacy and a PhD in Pharmaceutical sciences. Before joining SIB, she worked in the pharmaceutical industry for over 10 years.

  • Baptiste Chenuz

    Baptiste joined SIB in September 2016 to conduct his one-year Professional Swiss Matura traineeship, in conjunction with the high school where he completed his commercial studies. His main task is to support the Administrative Assistants of SIB Management and Vital-IT, for example with event organization or IT equipment orders. Afterwards, he wishes to travel and discover the world during one year.

  • Leonardo Ledesma
    Accounting Assistant

    Leonardo’s main activities consist in assisting the Head of Finance, and in dealing with current accounting affairs with his colleague Sabine. He joined SIB in 2014 and holds a CFC Diploma in Economics and General Culture as well as a Commercial Professional Matura obtained in 2015.

  • Marc Filliettaz
    Legal and Technology Transfer Officer

    Marc is responsible for the Legal and Technology Transfer Office and for all legal matters at SIB, including intellectual property, personal data protection and research involving human beings. He joined SIB in 2014 after obtaining a Master’s degree in Law at the University of Geneva. During his studies, he co-founded a Geneva-based company specializing in a new process technology for wine conditioning.

  • Véronique Mangold
    Head of Human Resources

    Véronique is responsible for SIB’s Human Resources’ strategy, implementation and follow-up. She also ensures that all operational HR matters are managed consistently and fairly. Véronique joined SIB in June 2000 after having studied Theology at the University of Geneva.

  • Sylvie Flegel
    Communications Assistant

    Sylvie maintains SIB’s website and social media accounts, designs communication materials and assists in the creation and emailing of the Communications department’s publications. Sylvie joined SIB in 2009. She holds a degree in foreign languages (English, Italian and German) as well as a degree in tourism. She also studied photography and graphic design.

  • Lydie Nso Nso
    Administrative Assistant

    Lydie’s main activity is to provide administrative support to the Management team by organizing internal and external meetings and events, as well as by ensuring links with partners and other bodies. She also assists the Legal and Technology Transfer Office, by ensuring the follow-up of schedules for contracts and managing the electronic database. Lydie joined SIB in 2014 and holds an undergraduate diploma in business.

  • Manuela Pruess
    Grant Officer

    Manuela is the contact person for all questions related to grant rules, both internal and external, especially concerning EU, SNSF and NIH funding. She liaises between SIB Group Leaders, the Finance team and the Legal and Technology Transfer Office. She holds a PhD in Human Genetics and joined the SIB in 2010 after having worked for German and UK research institutions.

  • Warren Paulus
    Information System Security Officer

    Warren is responsible for the Information Security at SIB including technical and non-technical projects for all entities supervised by SIB. He holds a Master of Science in Industrial Engineer. Before joining SIB, he worked as Consultant for multinational companies during 4 years. After work, he always tries to improve his skills as an autodidact.

  • Sandra Reinders
    Human Resources Manager

    Sandra elaborates and manages diverse Human Resources projects. In parallel, she assists and advises Group Leaders and Employees in employee life cycle matters and management questions. She joined SIB in 2015 with 20 years of experience in HR, after having worked in various countries and industries, including the academic sector. She holds a MSc degree in Management of Technology and Innovation.

  • Maïa Berman
    Communications Manager

    Maïa manages communication projects such as press releases, annual reports or newsletters, from inception to delivery. She writes and edits content for SIB’s various communication channels (e.g. website, social media, presentations). She joined SIB in 2016 after completing a PhD in Biology (Australia and France) in 2012 and working for three years in legal marketing and business development at a Swiss law firm.

  • Chiara Gabella
    Project Manager

    Chiara is managing a number of projects including a study on funding models for data resources and the management of the processes governing the SIB Core Resources. Chiara joined SIB in 2016, after a postdoctoral position in Biophysics. She holds a MSc in Mathematical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Turin and a PhD in Physics from the EPFL in Lausanne.

  • Jocelyne Bocquet
    Head of Finance and Grant Services

    Jocelyne is in charge of the Finance department. She ensures the financial coordination and management of all funds allocated to SIB and in which SIB is involved. She obtained a degree in Financial Management in 1982 and joined SIB in 2009, after working in different areas of financial trusts, institutions, foundations and associations.
