Swiss Government funds are allocated to SIB Resources and Core facilities as per the recommendations of SIB’s external Scientific Advisory Board

2 SIB received CHF 4.5 million in 2019 for BioMedIT. 1.7 million were used for BioMedIT projects, the rest (2.8 million) is carried over to next year. SIB also received 1.1 million from SAMS for SPHN's DCC project.
3 SIB’s Management and support teams are financed by the Swiss Government as well as through overheads on external funds.
4 The groups having entrusted SIB with the management of their funds benefit from a specific support in legal affairs, human resources and financial monitoring.

Sustained federal support

At the occasion of SIB's 20th birthday (1998-2018), we asked Mauro Dell'Ambrogio, State Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) what has made SIB eligible for federal funding over the past years and how was Switzerland positioned internationally regarding its bioinformatics infrastructure. He also gives us his vision of the field's main challenges for the next 20 years.
