1. Introduction

1.1 - The amount of generated "omics data" is growing at a furious pace and therefore the need for appropriate education in bioinformatics, computational biology and biostatistics is also increasing. SIB coordinates and provides training to the Swiss and international community in various bioinformatics-related fields. SIB continuously adapts its training offerings to complement the Swiss and international alternatives available and to take into account not only a larger pool of students with diverse background knowledge, but also a variety of scientific approaches mostly based on, and related to, data-intensive technologies. SIB professional training activities primarily target PhD candidates and postdocs indistinctively from universities in Switzerland or abroad. As available places allow, scientists with the minimum equivalent knowledge can also attend. The following conditions apply to any person interested in attending an SIB training activity.

2. Registration / Enrolment in courses

2.1 - Acceptance of candidates into an SIB Training course is at the sole discretion of SIB.

3. Data Protection

3.1 - By enrolling in an SIB training course, the participant accepts that his/her personal data (contact information, statistics on courses taken, compliance with payment terms, etc.) may be retained by SIB for internal use exclusively. He/she also accepts that personal data may be used by SIB for SIB's own communication or organizational purposes. The data are, however, never transmitted to third parties except in anonymous form.

4. Payment of registration fees

4.1 - The cost of SIB Training courses and deadline of payment are communicated individually to the candidates.
4.2 - Payment must be made in any case before the beginning of the SIB Training course.
4.3 - If payment is not received as per the above-stated conditions, the candidate will not be eligible to participate in the SIB Training course.

5. Cancellation of registration / enrolment and absences

5.1 - If withdrawals are submitted in writing prior to the withdrawal date set by the course organizer, no fees are due (and fees, if already paid, are reimbursed). After this date, course fees are no longer reimbursed and fees remain due if not yet paid.
5.2 - Total or partial absences from an SIB Training course cannot be made up and give no right to any reimbursement of the cost of the course. Last minute extenuating circumstances may be accepted (personal illness, etc.) but may require a documented excuse.
5.3 - Persons who register for an SIB Training course and do not attend it, without any prior notification, will have low priority when applying to attend future SIB Training courses.

6. Participant substitution

6.1 - Substitutes may be accepted subject to approval by SIB.

7. Number of participants

7.1 - SIB may set a minimum and/or maximum number of participants for an SIB Training course. SIB may decide to cancel a Training course if the minimum number of enrolments is not met.

8. Organization of the courses

8.1 - SIB may need to postpone, reschedule, cancel or move an SIB Training course to a location other than its premises. In cases of postponement or rescheduling, registrations / enrolments remain valid. In the case of cancellations or when the postponed or rescheduled time is not possible for the participant, SIB will reimburse only the fees already paid and in no case will be responsible to pay any compensation of any kind whatsoever.

9. Intellectual Property

9.1 - The intellectual property rights relating to the content, materials, software programmes, data or any other course-related items presented or published are the sole property of SIB and the instructors as well as of the potential rights-holders. Under no circumstances do the participants acquire rights to the above-mentioned content.
9.2 - Any copy, reproduction, distribution, sale, publication, or use in any manner whatsoever of the content, materials, software programmes, data or any other published course-related items is strictly prohibited. Only use for private purposes is authorized.
9.3 - Article 9.2 is subsidiary to any specific licence expressly intended for a particular course.

10. University credits and course certificates

10.1 - Participants who are present for the entire duration of the SIB Training course receive a certificate of attendance. This certificate does not attest to any level of knowledge achieved during the SIB Training. Participants are responsible for signing the attendance list every day.
10.2 - Participants who successfully pass an examination at the end of an SIB Training course receive a certificate of satisfactory completion, which includes an estimate of the number of European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS credits) attached to the SIB Training course. However, SIB does not award ECTS credits; only the student's home University can decide on the number of credits to be validated.

11. Disclaimers and warranty

SIB makes no warranties of any kind, express or implied, as to the operations, information, content or materials included in the SIB Training courses; all of which are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis and only to the extent of any rights to the materials held by SIB.
To the full extent permissible by applicable law, SIB hereby disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including, but not limited to, implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for any particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy or the presence or absence of errors. SIB will not be liable for any damages of any kind arising from use of or inability to use SIB Training.
The participant expressly agrees to use solely at his/her own risk the SIB Training course and any included materials or content.

12. Applicable law and place of jurisdiction

12.1 - This contract is subject to Swiss law. The place of jurisdiction is Lausanne.
