Overview

As part of the eSCT training program, sciCORE, the scientific computing center at University of Basel is organizing a workshop on EasyBuild.

The aim of the workshop is to learn, share information about and practice the EasyBuild software management tool, as a key component in the management of scientific HPC infrastructures.

This is an advanced workshop, aimed at system administrators, user support teams, or anyone managing scientific software installation in HPC clusters.

Prerequisites

Even though we will touch advanced topics, it is not necessary to have previous knowledge; an experienced attendant who has not tried EasyBuild before should be able to follow the course without problems. Participants should bring their own laptop.

Programme

The workshop will have a practical approach, with a short first part for introduction and theory, and a second one for the hands-on session where more advanced topics will be touched. The main topics will be:

  • General introduction: managing the software stack, understanding and writing EasyConfigs
  • Hands-on practice
  • Enhancing/extending EasyBuild
  • Integration with RPM system
