What we do

Sensory neural systems display stunning variation. Our aim is to investigate their evolution between species and populations.

  • How do novel neural circuits emerge (and how are they lost)?
  • What are the evolutionary forces that modify sensory systems?

We focus on two modalities that change quickly: olfaction and thermal sensing. Our work is both computational (comparative and population genomics) and experimental (physiology and behavior), using ecologically diverse Drosophila species from around the world as our model systems.
