Overview

This 2-day intermediate course is targeted at life scientists or bioinformaticians who are already using the R statistical software in practice, and want to extend their knowledge.

Topics covered include, among others:

  • Objects and Data structures
  • Operations and Logical operations
  • Missing data
  • Data manipulation: Concatenation, Sorting, Data subsetting, Apply
  • Customisation of graphics
  • Conditional instructions, loops
  • Functions
  • KnitR/markdown

Learning objectives

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • have a better understanding of the objects and data structures used in R
  • use and apply different functions for data manipulation
  • use the options for better R graphics output
  • make conditional statement and build loops

Prerequisites

Knowledge / competencies:

  • Participants must be familiar with the R statistical analysis package prior to attending the course.
  • Participants who have followed the First Steps with R SIB course should have sufficient knowledge in R, provided that they have regularly practiced after the course and that they are comfortable using the software.

Technical: A WiFi-equipped laptop with latest R version installed.

The registration fees for academics are 100 CHF. This includes course content material and coffee breaks. Participants from non-academic institutions should contact us before application.
