Overview

Several research groups are dealing with very sensitive human data, and learning how to properly manage them, from acquisition to storage and sharing, has become urgent.
This course will introduce the general steps needed to avoid public leaks of sensitive data, protecting by the same time your reputation and that of your institution. The course will cover best practices for the management of sensitive human data, from the technical aspects of how the data should be stored and shared, to practical guidelines of how to manage such data in an an analysis setting. The course will be illustrated with several use-cases of current projects within the SIB.

Audience

Any scientist dealing with sensitive data at any stage of the data life cycle would be encouraged to follow this best practises training.

Learning objectives

At the end of the course participants should:

  • Be aware of risks involved with handling sensitive data
  • Know how to minimize these risks by applying best practices

Programme

10h00 - 10h45: Introduction to sensitive data management, do’s and don'ts
10h45 - 11h15: Use cases 1 - Practical examples of projects dealing with sensitive data
11h15 - 11h30: Coffee break
11h30 - 12h00: Use cases 2 - Practical examples of projects dealing with sensitive data
12h00- 12h30: Conclusions, discussion and wrap-up
