Every time you browse the Internet, even securely, you are generating a digital trace that may attract hackers and companies trying to learn more about you: your public IP address or location will tell them where you are connected, and your browsing behaviour (e.g. visited webpages, clicks) can be used to reconstruct your personal preferences.
