📣 We still have some seats available for the #SIB course on "Submitting, Finding and Downloading Raw Sequencing Data with ENA" 👉 07 June 2024 💻 Streamed Trainers: Geert van Geest, with a dedicated Lecture from: Maira Ihsan The aim of this course is to give an overview of repositories and data structures in order to guide you to search and submit your sequence data in the right place. You will learn how to use these portals by finding, downloading and submitting large datasets. We will mainly focus on the portals and platforms available for submitting to the European Nucleotide Archive (ENA), but many of the taught concepts can be applied to NCBI and DDBJ. #bioinformatics #training #ENA #SequenceData #datarepositories #FAIR European Nucleotide Archive SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics 🚨 Apply here: https://lnkd.in/eUfppEQC

👉 📣 💡 We are pleased to announce that the following SIB course on: Enrichment Analysis which will be streamed live on 28 June 2024, is now open for applications. This one-day course is targeted at life science researchers in academia or industry who want to perform enrichment analysis to identify groups of genes that are differentially expressed, using R. The course will cover Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) and alternative enrichment methods. Because most of their implementations are directly linked to databases of functional annotation of genes in the cell, the course will also give an overview of functional annotation databases such as the Gene Ontology. Further detailed information, prerequisites and application form are available here: https://lnkd.in/eVgpY-u6 SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics #training #bioinformatics #LifeSciences #DataAnalysis

🧬 Tracking #inbreeding in populations to assess their genetic #health A study led by SIB Group Leader and Prof. Jérôme Goudet at the FBM UNIL - Faculté de biologie et de médecine de l'Université de Lausanne proposes a new statistical approach for detecting inbreeding depression — the loss of fitness and overall health due to inbreeding— in populations where individuals might be related to one another. 💡 It better accounts for non-independence among observations than traditional methods. This model can therefore be used in populations with stronger structure, such as admixed populations or endangered species with few, related individuals, and help evaluate their genetic wellness and preserve and restore #biodiversity. 🌎 Bruce Weir University of Lausanne - UNIL Read more 👉

#Biodiversity is declining at an alarming rate in recent years, primarily due to human activities. 🌎 Producing the reference genome for a species offers invaluable insights into its evolutionary history, genetic diversity, and unique adaptations. 🧬 The Earth BioGenome Project aims to sequence the genome of 1.8 million species by 2035. 🧬 SIB contributes its experience in data science to produce #data supported by public cloud infrastructures and available to researchers worldwide. 🌎 Galaxy Project Robert Waterhouse ERGA - European Reference Genome Atlas Earth BioGenome Project Delphine Lariviere Björn Grüning Marcela Uliano da Silva Adam Phillippy Erich Jarvis Michael Schatz Giulio Formenti Read 👉
