ECCB2026 - SIB Communities day: From FAIR principles to data pipelines: FAIRification and FAIR enabling resources at scale with ELIXIR Europe, GO-FAIR Foundation, CODATA and webby FDOs

The FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles are widely endorsed, but many research projects still struggle to turn them into concrete, repeatable implementation steps that scale beyond a single dataset, tool, or team. This two-part workshop convenes experts and practitioners working on FAIR-enabling infrastructure to compare approaches and jointly draft a reference implementation aspiring to address the challenges of our time—be it in Biodiversity, AI & Health or beyond.

Open morning session 9–12 CET: The open morning introduces three complementary building blocks at an implementation level: CODATA’s Cross-Domain Interoperability Framework (CDIF); the GO-FAIR Foundation ecosystem of FAIR Implementation Profiles (FIPs), FAIR Enabling Resources (FERs) and FAIR Supporting Resources (FSRs); and ELIXIR Europe’s FAIRification Framework, including “webby” FAIR Digital Objects (FDOs) patterns. Participants will compare concepts, assumptions, and integration points (e.g., profiles, registries, identifiers, metadata, and machine-actionable signals).

Afternoon session for technology experts 13–17 CET: The afternoon is a focused working session for participants with hands-on experience in one or more of these technologies. Together, we will refine a draft architecture and produce a pragmatic roadmap for bringing these components together into solutions that can be implemented at scale in computational biology infrastructures and beyond.
