SIB held its first training course for clinical lab professionals

On 28 September, the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics held its first course dedicated to clinicians and clinical laboratory professionals.
This one-day course aimed at providing participants with a deepened knowledge, experience and understanding of how to make the best use of bioinformatics to improve cancer diagnosis. It focused on the use of next-generation sequencing (NGS) in oncology, in particular regarding quality control and variant annotation.
Organized by SIB Clinical Bioinformatics and Training groups in collaboration with the University Hospital of Geneva (HUG), the course brought together 27 pathologists, lab technicians, biologists and bioinformaticians, from major French-speaking Swiss hospitals, universities and private laboratories. It included lectures and hands-on sessions on real study cases using HUG bioinformatics pipeline for cancer diagnosis (Oncobench™).
