To promote excellence and innovation in the field of bioinformatics, in 2008 SIB created the SIB Bioinformatics Awards to acknowledge early career bioinformaticians and ground-breaking resources of national and international standing.

The Awards honour bioinformatics excellence in three categories and the call for applications to two of them – the SIB Early Career Bioinformatician and SIB Best Swiss Bioinformatics Graduate Paper Award – is now open:

The 10th SIB Bioinformatics Awards and an interview series to meet the past Laureates

In 2019, the SIB Bioinformatics Awards will be presented for the 10th time. On this occasion, SIB reached out to past laureates to ask them where they are now in their career. To learn more about the previous laureates, follow the weekly interview series “Meet the past SIB Awards Laureates”.
  1. SIB Early Career Bioinformatician Award
    The SIB Early Career Bioinformatician Award is an international award that recognises the excellence and promise of a researcher’s early career, based on one or several projects and/or papers focussing on the in silico analysis of biological sequences, structures or processes.

  2. SIB Best Swiss Bioinformatics Graduate Paper Award
    The SIB Best Swiss Bioinformatics Graduate Paper Award is a national award that recognises outstanding papers published by a graduate student in the area of in silico analysis of biological sequences, structures or processes.

  3. SIB Bioinformatics Resource Innovation Award
    The SIB Bioinformatics Resource Innovation Award is an international award that recognises newly developed bioinformatics resources with an important impact on life science research or the clear potential to make such an impact.
    Call for entries will open on 4 February 2019

Applications will be reviewed by a jury of international experts, with the winners to be announced during the awards ceremony of the 14th [BC]2 Basel Computational Biology Conference (part of the Basel Life Conference, 9-12 September 2019, Switzerland). All Awards carry a cash prize and Laureates will be invited to give a plenary talk during the [BC]2 conference.
