The Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) has launched the national research initiative entitled Swiss Personalized Health Network (SPHN). This initiative will create a national infrastructure allowing the sharing across Switzerland of patient data for research. The infrastructure will integrate the university hospitals, schools of higher education, research institutes, organizations working in the area of personalized health, as well as currently ongoing projects. The principle is to join forces nationwide, to include all available competences and to coordinate the required infrastructures all over Switzerland.
To achieve this goal, it is essential that the medical informatics systems of the Swiss University Hospitals and other personalized health platforms in Switzerland are rendered mutually compatible (‘interoperable’). SIB has a leading role in the SPHN initiative, and will set up and run the Data Coordination Centre that will deal with data interoperability and organization nation-wide (see figure). It is currently contributing to the establishment of standards for data production and storage.
