Evolutionary Bioinformatics

In the Evolutionary Bioinformatics Group, we are interested in animal genome evolution with a focus on questions arising from evolutionary developmental biology (Evo-Devo). For this, we develop methods and databases to extract reliable information from genome and transcriptome data. Our main project is Bgee, a database for gene expression expertise. While developing Bgee, we conduct research on ontologies, biocuration, and statistical methods for transcriptomics. Our biological focus is to link Evo-Devo with evolutionary genomics. Notably, we study the role of gene duplication in the divergence between genes and between species.
