One of SIB’s missions is to lead and coordinate the field of bioinformatics in Switzerland by fostering collaborations. Over time, an intense network of collaborative links has been established between the SIB groups from Swiss universities and research institutes located in the cantons of Basel, Bern, Geneva, Fribourg, Ticino, Vaud and Zurich.
The SIB collaboration network was generated from a programme developed by Michael Baudis, SIB Group Leader
SIB also collaborates at the international level with renowned institutions:
- in Europe: e.g. the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (Germany), European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI, UK), the Bioinformatics Services to Swedish Life Science (BILS), the Spanish National Bioinformatics Institute (INB), the Netherlands Bioinformatics Centre (NBIC).
- in the US: e.g. the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), the Protein Information Resource (PIR).
- elsewhere: e.g. SOKA University (Japan), Macquarie University (Australia), the University of Cape Town (South Africa), the Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel).
